A Guide to Towing

When planning a caravan holiday or a camping holiday with a trailer you still have to think about a few practicalities.   When towing a trailer or a caravan it is important your vehicle is up to the job and that you have the right equipment fitted.   This can cost around £200 but is worth the peace of mind that your vehicle is prepared.

Towing a trailer or caravan will place extra strain on your engine and can increase fuel consumption due to the additional weight. For safety reasons there are certain precautions you must take, it is important to ensure that all lights on the caravan or trailer are connected to the cars electronics correctly, it is good idea to check this before and during your journey.

A caravan will be wider than your vehicle so you will need a long reaching mirror to guarantee your visibility and don’t forget to attach your number plate. It is advisable to slow down at turns and avoid narrow country lanes.  Caravans are also not permitted on the fast lane of the motorway. As long as you take a few precautions when towing it will be a smooth journey.
